<p class="MsoNormal">From <strong><span style="color: rgb(131, 11, 44);">23 March 2025,</span> </strong>if a landlord wishes to charge their tenant for water usage, all toilets in rental properties must be dual flush with a minimum 3-star WELS rating. This is in addition to the already in-place water efficiency measures.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">A landlord can only pass on water usage charges to the tenant if the property meets all water efficiency measures.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><u><span style="color: rgb(131, 11, 44);"><strong>What are the current water efficiency measures?</strong></span><br></u>A rental property is only considered water efficient if it meets the following required measures:</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><strong>Shower heads</strong><br></em>Required standard: Maximum rate of 9 litres per minute</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><strong>Internal cold water taps and single mixer taps for kitchen sinks or bathroom hand basins</strong><br></em>Required standard: Maximum flow rate of 9 litres per minute</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><strong>Dual flush toilets</strong><br></em>Required standard: <strong>from 23 March 2025</strong>, all toilets on the property are dual flush and have a minimum 3-star WELS rating</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Water efficiency measures should appear on the condition report.
